Our Small School Spotlight Series continues as Josh Buchanan starts prepping you for the '09 Draft.
C THOMAS CROWLEY, WEST TEXAS A&M, 6036, 286, 5.25 40 After sitting out with a torn ACL last season Crowley looks poised to breakout and become one of the top small school centers in the nation. He was a projected priority free agent grade before the injury. He was still on crutches in February but is expected to be ready for the fall. He was a 2nd team All-Lonestar selection at left guard in 2006 after transferring from Orange Coast CC. a priority free agent grade or better, if he can successfully recover from his knee injury
CB AL DONALDSON, ALABAMA A&M, 5097, 176, 4.56 40 Donaldson burst onto the scene in ’07 with 8 interceptions and 11 pass breakups on his way to AFCA All-America honors. He lacks the ideal size for a NFL cornerback but compensates with his hard-hitting approach to the game. He is a smart kid who runs well and is very coachable. With another All-America season and his speed there is no reason he won’t earn late round consideration.
DT/OL ERIC SCHROEDER, SOUTH DAKOTA STATE, 6034, 280, 5.01 40 Schroeder is a big, tough kid who runs well and has been productive. He tallied 13.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks on his way to earning 2nd team All-Great West honors for the second consecutive year in 2007. The does lack the ideal quickness for the defensive tackle position and has some scouts considering a move to the offensive line. Expect this highly productive prospect to earn a free agent grade heading into the season.
TE GERALD STOCKDALE, ALABAMA A&M, 6020, 223, 4.75 40 Stockdale, a former receiver, is a player that might not earn a grade from scouts in the spring but the coaches feel he could earn one by mid-season. He had 22 catches for 229 yards last season but is a potential 40-50 catch type player. Many around the SWAC feel he could be the best tight end in the conference this year. He is a smart kid who runs fairly well and has the seal of approval by everyone who knows him. His 4.7 speed and projected breakout season might earn him a priority free agent.
