Here's What You Get...
* NFL Power Rankings:
1. San Diego Chargers: They are stacked on both sides of the ball, led by impact players LaDainian Tomlinson and Shawne Merriman. After playing New England tough the last two postseasons, it is time for the Super Chargers to finish the job. Ben Roethlisberger and Eli Manning have rings—it’s Phillip Rivers’ turn.
2007: 11-5; Scoring Offense: #5 – 25.8 PPG; Scoring Defense: #5 – 17.8 PPG
* Top 32 prospects to watch for in ’08:
1. Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio St.: Already a proven ball hawk (4 INTs), Jenkins also made five tackles for a loss as junior. He will likely be the first corner off the board in 2009—a top 10 pick. He’s got the size, speed and athleticism.
* Grade the fantasy impact of the incoming rookie class:
Darren McFadden, Raiders: Look for Run DMC to be unleashed in ’08, as the revamped Oakland offense will look to re-focus on the running attack. The speed-burner from Arkansas runs a 4.3 forty and has already begun taking snaps at wide receiver and quarterback- expect him to be used in a slash-type role. With Dominic Rhodes already out the door and LaMont Jordan rumored to be next in line, McFadden will also be the primary backfield option, pairing with Justin Fargas. Despite Fargas coming off a 1,000-yard season, the Raiders will manage to get the ball in McFadden’s hands a minimum of 20+ times per game. He is a bona-fide fantasy stud in the making.
2008 Projection 1,250 5.1 12
2008 Projection 1,400 4.8 14
* Recap of the major off-season transactions of all 32 NFL team:
New Faces -- Cleveand Browns: WR Donte’ Stallworth
Cleveland was last year’s Cinderella story as their offense busted out in a big way. The addition of wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth puts them on the verge of being one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL. Stallworth, who joins his fourth team in as many seasons, has averaged five touchdowns per season over his six-year career. Consider that total a minimum in ’08, as the deep threat has drawn rave reviews thus far in training camp. Stallworth joins a potent receiving corps, which also includes Braylon Edwards and Joe Jurevicius. Add Pro Bowl tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. to the mix and its very realistic that quarterback Derek Anderson could surpass last year’s touchdown total (29). There will be no sophomore jinx in Cleveland for Anderson, who received a three-year contract during the off-season and don’t be surprised to see him soar into tier-two fantasy status this season.
Draft -- Dallas Cowboys: Arkansas product Felix Jones leads the charge from a fantasy perspective for the Cowboys rookie class. He’ll be slotted into the role of the change-of-place runner, replacing Julius Jones. Felix is explosive enough to serve as a bye-week fill-in for your fantasy squad. Fourth round selection Tashard Choice is a tough inside runner who should be taken as Barber’s handcuff and has been praised early on in mini-camp. Cornerback Mike Jenkins was selected in the first round and is a fluid, physical athlete who should see significant playing time. Conversely, Martellus Bennett is a graceful receiving tight end who will see limited action with Jason Witten starting ahead of him.
Keeper: Felix Jones- Will be a change of pace back who can take it to the house.
Sleeper: Tashard Choice- Has the size and resume to be an every-down back.
Overall Grade: B
