The first annual Lunch Bucket Squad was introduced this prior to the 2010 NFL Draft. Its mandate is to shed some light on players who won’t be household names from the early going. Players like Kurt Warner, who went undrafted back in 1994 then bounced around NFL Europe and stocked groceries before finally earning his place as one greats.
Trevor Harris was the choice at quarterback for the Lunch Bucket Squad. The NFL Draft Bible caught up with Harris and asked him to go back and talk about the draft and how OTA’s went as training camp nears.
When it comes to the playbook Harris joked that it was “a little bit thicker than Edinboro” while adding, “I’m in my playbook right now…between meals, reading.”
Harris set record after record while at Division II Edinboro, getting looks from every NFL team while working out at Ohio State’s pro day.
Despite going undrafted, the young man from Waldo, Ohio said he had a “few different teams” call and he was “just looking at any opportunity” to get into the NFL.
How did he end up in Jacksonville with the Jaguars? Harris laughed and said, “I was on the phone with the Jaguars when the Mr. Irrelevant pick was made. So like five seconds after the draft I was with the Jaguars. I’m excited about the situation.”
Landing in Jacksonville might not have been a total shock since he had a scheduled visit on April 13th. Harris also pointed out that he visited the Seahawks and Bengals, and had a private workout with the Saints.
He’s happy to be where he is, but not far enough removed to forget where he is from. Harris speaks fondly of his time at Edinboro and states, “I owe them a lot.” Harris even gives his mother a call every morning from Jacksonville and says she teases him when he says he has to go to work. “Yeah…work,” she laughs.
Harris was offered a walk-on spot at Iowa and a preferred walk-on shot at Cincinnati, but his 175-pound frame “might have scared a few schools away.”
The former Edinboro Fighting Scot says, “In all honesty I wanted to be a Jaguar…it’s kind of a fun deal,” and mentioned that he “liked the general manager, coaches” and felt there were “guys that fit my personality” already on the Jags’ roster.
Speaking of that Jags’ roster, David Garrard is on the hot seat and Luke McCown isn’t the next big thing, so there is a chance Harris will get a legitimate shot to stick with his new ball club.
