Trade Rumors Continue to Swirl for Jets RB

Thomas Jones remains a candidate to be traded this summer, according to the National Football Post's Michael Lombardi.

Mancini’s Take: The plan here is for the Jets to properly evaluate rookie Shonn Greene, and then make a determination on what to do with Jones. But if the Jets practically gave up their entire allotment of second-day picks to move up and select Greene, shouldn’t they already be convinced that the former Hawkeye can do the job? I mean we’re talking about a running back here. Backs don’t need to be groomed to start in the NFL. So, if that’s the case, Gang Green should deal Jones right now, and get a difference-making receiver in return.

Mandel's Take: Who in the world is going to trade you a difference-making receiver for a 30-year-old running back? Making things more difficult for the Jets is the fact that teams are aware of the fact that Jones' value has diminished now that Greene is in the mix. When you have an unhappy player like Jones, and a ready-made (at least the Jets think so) replacement in Greene to partner Leon Washington, the whole league knows what time it is--you're in a poor trade position. Who can they trade Jones to? Cleveland? They're not getting Braylon Edwards for him. Look around and tell me who needs a running back, then tell me who has a spare receiver to trade--there's no market for him. I see Jones staying in New York.
