| Summer of Sanchez | ||||

The Daily News has learned that Mark Sanchez has received a five-year contract that includes $28 million in guarantees. This makes Sanchez the highest-paid player in team history. It’s believed that Sanchez’ deal averages close to $9 million per year, bringing the total value to near $45 million. He can earn more with incentives. Mancini’s Take: America’s favorite GQ model is financially set for life, and I’m happy that he was able to take care of his contract in quick fashion. Sanchez is still basking in the glow of being the fifth-overall pick, and new Jets savior, but now comes the moment of truth. The kid seemingly has the leadership qualities and intelligence to succeed, but intelligence doesn’t mean he’ll be a good quarterback. Alex Smith is a smart guy too. There’s no doubt that GQ boy has some nice tools, but where was this prior to the Rose Bowl victory versus Penn State last year, Ross? This guy has a lot to prove, but I do sincerely wish him well.
