Shockey Taken Out on Stretcher

TMZ obtained photos of New Orleans Saints tight end Jeremy Shockey right before he was placed on a stretcher at Rehab -- the pool at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas -- and taken to the hospital. TMZ spoke to the Saints, who said Shockey was just "dehydrated" and will be "fine."

Mancini’s Take: Oh man, how I envy not having Jerry Reese as my GM with the Jets. Reese was just flat-out brilliant in the way he duped the Saints into thinking that Shockey still had some upside, and retrieving a second and fifth-round pick in return for the fading athlete. Let’s look at this carefully, Rosstradamus. GM Mickey Loomis could’ve held on to his second-round pick and taken Jared Cook as his future tight end. Instead, he has a 250-pound albatross around his neck, who continues to slow down, drop passes, and make an absolute jackass of himself off the field. Your thoughts, great oracle.

Mandel’s Take:
My thoughts consist of laughter. Yeah, he was “dehydrated”. That’s what happens when you drink in the sun. Shockey is, this aside, healthier than he has been in years and Drew Brees has stated that he’s excited to finally have a healthy Shockey to work with in the off-season. I’d caution Mr. Brees and the Saints—this guy flatters to deceive. He’ll be great…for a while. Then the inevitable break-down will occur and Brees will once again become frustrated with the enigmatic one. The Saints are lucky that their fans are exceedingly patient; if this trade happened the other way, Giants fans would be calling for their GM’s head.
