NFL: Scott to Moss: Man Up Next Time
Written by Ross Mandel    Thursday, 24 September 2009 04:32    PDF Print E-mail

After hearing Randy Moss' post game comments about Darrelle Revis, and how the Jets' corner had help and didn't really shut down the Pats' receiver, Revis' teammate Bart Scott came to his defense...and thensome. "I hear the easy copout by Randy Moss, saying that anybody can guard...that 'I can play cornerback if I had safety help,'" Scott said. I think sometimes you've just got to give the man his credit, understand that [Revis] was the better man that day. That doesn’t take from the fact that Randy Moss is a great receiver in this league. But give the kid his due. Revis shut him down. He intimidated him. Randy was coming across that middle real slow. Tell him to man up next time and come across the middle like a man if he wants to be a complete receiver."

Mandel's Take: How can you not love that? Stir that rivalry up! Scott's comments are in line with the attitude this team has shown all season--they're not going to be intimidated by anyone, and they're not going to take anything from anyone. What a difference a new regime makes. Revis DID shut Moss down and has pretty much done so the past three times the pair have met. That part of the Scott statement is accurate...but Randy Moss' game isn't about going over the middle, and he's been a devastatingly effective receiver for many seasons without doing so. Don't get me wrong--Moss isn't allergic to the middle of the field, I'm just saying that's not where he makes his living. Perhaps Scott is taking Moss' bad attitude from his Oakland days into consideration when he calls the receiver's manhood into question. Scott doesn't seem like the kind of player that would appreciate less than 100% effort from anyone, much less a guy who pops off after Scott's teammate shut him down. Rex Ryan's boys are becoming fun in a hurry.
