NFL: Rams Suffer Injuries on Sunday

Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports St. Louis Rams OT Jason Smith (knee) left the team's Week 2 game with a knee injury. "They're calling it a meniscus (cartilage) right now," head coach Steve Spagnuolo said. "I'm not sure the extent of it." Rams C Jason Brown (knee) suffered a knee injury in Week 2. Brown is scheduled for an MRI Monday, Sept. 21. OT Alex Barron (thigh) and DL Leonard Little (calf) suffered injuries in the team's Week 2 game.

Mandel's Take: As if the Rams needed this type of news. Smith, the second overall pick, had been steadily improving and although Adam Goldberg filled in admirably, he's not a long-term solution. Brown was forced to leave the game, but returned, much to the relief of the entire team. The big man helped limit Skins' fancy free agent signing Albert Haynesworth to one tackle and no sacks in the Rams' loss to the Redskins, but was limping off the field after the game. The team will be holding their breath as they await the MRI results. Barron had knee issues in the preseason, and if the Rams want to look on the bright side, at least this latest problem isn't with that...and while there's concern about Leonard Little's calf injury, the offensive line is where the attention should be; this team is thin on the OL as it is...they cannot afford to lose anyone. Steve Spagnuolo's hair is turning grayer by the day.
