NFL: Panthers' Barnidge the Man at Tight End
Written by Ross Mandel    Thursday, 20 August 2009 03:51    PDF Print E-mail

According to the Charlotte Observer's David Scott, second-year tight end Gary Barnidge has taken over the starting job from Jeff King.

The Skinny: The Panthers are apparently opting to go with the receiving option over the blocking option at tight end, and I can't blame them. As good a blocker as Jeff King is, this team is lacking at receiver and Barnidge gives them another option. The former first team All Big East player out of Louisville gives Carolina a downfield threat with solid hands. It seems pretty clear that the underachieving Dwayne Jarrett and the aging Muhsin Muhammad have thus far failed to impress in preseason.
