NFL: Croyle Competing in KC

Kansas City Chiefs beat writer Kent Babb claims that Brodie Croyle is a genuine threat to take over the starting job from Matt Cassel.

The Skinny: Coach Todd Haley's failure to give Cassel a glowing review is probably where this is coming from, but I'm not buying it. I understand that Cassel is struggling to find his footing in the preseason, but Croyle isn't going to take over that job. Cassel is being paid a ton of money to start and that's exactly what he's going to do, regardless of what happens during preseason. Croyle has passed Tyler Thigpen on the depth chart, but it's going to take a lot more than a couple of shaky practice sessions from Cassel for Croyle to gain the starting gig. Besides, it's not as if Croyle has been anything beyond average when he's been a starting quarterback.
