| NFL: Cassel to Remain Starter...For Now | ||||

Matt Cassel signed a very lucrative free agent contract in the off-season to be the starting QB for the Chiefs. After a couple of games, Brodie Croyle, who has seen playing time due to a Cassel injury, has better numbers than the high-priced Cassel. Despite that, Coach Todd Haley is sticking with Cassel...for the time being. “You’ve got to ultimately do what you think gives your team the best chance to win,” Haley said. “If that means another quarterback being in there other than Matt Cassel, then sign me up.” Mandel's Take: This seems like a bit much to me. Cassel's played all of one game and although the Chiefs lost and he didn't play particularly well, he was hardly a disaster. You give a guy all that money, give him one game, and then say his job is in jeopardy? If he wasn't in a competition in preseason, then why is he in one now? One game? I refuse to believe that this is anything other than an amateur motivational ploy, just like the one Haley pulled on Dwayne Bowe by "demoting" him in the preseason. Trackback(0)
