Harrison’s Name Gaining Steam in Tampa

ESPN.com's Pat Yasinskas says he keeps hearing Marvin Harrison's name in connection with the Buccaneers.

Mancini’s Take: Outside of Antonio Bryant, Tampa Bay’s receiver corps consists of mediocre veterans (Michael Clayton, Maurice Stovall), and young, unproven wide outs (Sammie Stroughter, Dexter Jackson), which makes signing with the Bucs an appealing proposition for a 37-year-old player, who’s just looking for one last pay day, which will come in the form of a short-term deal. There’s no doubt that the savvy and polished Harrison can help the Bucs immensely, especially alongside Bryant and newcomer Kellen Winslow, Jr. at tight end. Raheem Morris and company have also brought in D.J. Hackett and Drew Bennett to work out for the team. Having six receivers that can contribute in a pinch is the way to go in today’s game where four-and five receiver sets have become commonplace.

Mandel's Take: I'm going to disagree with you here, Rev. Signing Marvin Harrison makes no sense for Tampa...unless they think they're one broken down, veteran receiver away from winning something, which they're not. This is a team that needs to get younger, not one that needs to bring in a guy looking for a last dance. This isn't a Torry Holt situation; Harrison looked shot last season. I would be very surprised if Tampa wasn't just sniffing around. Yes, they need a receiver, but they don't need a 37-year-old, lost-more-than-a-step player. There are other ways to go.
