The Leading Authority of the NFL Draft

Delhomme High on Jarrett

According to the Gaston Gazette, Jake Delhomme thinks that Dwayne Jarrett can take a third-year leap just like DeAngelo Williams did last season.

Mancini’s Take: This sounds like wishful thinking to me. Jarrett would have to play out of his mind this summer to unseat Muhsin Muhammad as the number-two receiver. The tall USC product has shown little-to-no interest in studying film, and is painfully slow on the field. You may be able to get something out of him as a third or fourth receiver, but not as a featured wide out who’s expected to beat top corners. In addition to all that, the Jersey boy also has a DUI arrest on his ledger, which tells me all I need to know about where Jarrett’s head is. Give me a reason to believe in this underachiever, Rosstradamus.

Mandel's Take
: It is indeed wishful thinking, Rev, but one of the keys to him making such a leap is having the confidence of the quarterback and it appears Jarrett has that. For now. Whether or not Delhomme's faith continues into meaningful games is a big "if", but even if he doesn't supplant Mush as the number two, Jarrett can still help the team as a number three option. The Panthers let D.J. Hackett go and didn't draft a receiver, so it appears Delhomme isn't the only one who believes the former Trojan can emerge from his slumber this coming season. Jarrett will be 23 this year--perhaps the light will come on, but I need to see it to believe it.
