The Falcons acquired TE Tony Gonzalez from the Chiefs in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Mandel's Take: What a great move by Atlanta. Falcons fans must be saying, "So THIS is what it's like to have a good GM!" Kudos, Mr. Dimitroff. I'm not saying Kansas City got fleeced; they had to get something for Gonzalez. He was going to retire before the Chiefs were good again and the longer Pioli waited, the less Gonzalez was worth. Atlanta was pro-active and it's paid off: they filled a need AND kept all of their picks this year. Gonzalez might not be the man he was five years ago, but the change of scenery and playing with Matt Ryan is going to turn the clock back for him. After playing in hell for so long the former Chief has a chance to make a Super Bowl. Think about it--who's the favorite in the NFC if not Atlanta? Aren't you all tired of saying "Dallas" and realizing after the season how dumb a choice that was? Rev--talk to me. Aren't they going to thrive in the ATL with this acquisition?

Mancini's Take:
Atlanta has improved itself more than any other team with one acquisition. Gonzo is the gold standard for tight ends. He is to tight ends what Dan Marino was to quarterbacks. I don't care about his age because the new Falcon is a physical specimen whom looks and plays like he's five years younger than his actual age. Having a red-zone threat like Gonzalez also helps take pressure away from Michael Turner in the running game. But, what I like most about this trade, Ross man, is that Atlanta gave up a 2010 draft pick, allowing Dimitroff to keep all of this year's picks as he focuses on reinforcing a fractured defense. Falcon fans are all standing on their chairs doing the Dirty Bird today.
