All Access: The Kenny Britt Debate

Ebenezer Samuel of the N.Y. Daily News reports that WR Kenny Britt has great speed for his size, having run the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds at Rutgers' Pro Day. And it's that tantalizing marriage of size and speed - one that's earned comparisons to top NFL wideouts like Terrell Owens and Broncos star Brandon Marshall - that is forcing scouts to look past his inflated personality.

Mandel's Take: Britt is going to make some team very happy because of the positives listed above. But any talk of him having an attitude problem is a joke. He's a good kid. He got suspended for a game for violating eam rules, but to condemn a kid for one mistake...well, it seems a bit short-sighted. Britt learned from that mistake and I think people are mistaking his reluctance to express himself for "attitude". This is a kid who busted his rear end to become what he is. Unfortunately, when one "expert" slaps the diva label on you, it has a ripple effect with GMs. If this nonsense drops Britt down, so much the better for the team that gets him. They'll get a hard worker with speed and passion, not a problem child.

Mancini's Take:
I agree that some reports do tend to overblow things, but I can't stomach the fact that Britt is quoted as saying that he isn't a fan of the game. The Daily News piece went on to say that he Britt didn't even know who Darrius Heyward Bey was until he was introduced to him. I'm sorry, but if I'm spending a Day-One pick on someone, I want him to have a little more passion and enthusiasm for the game of football than that. The other thing that worries me about the big wideout is his hands. Much like T.O. and Marshall, Britt has shown a penchant for dropping easy balls. Luckily for Britt, there are only a handful of elite receivers in this year's class, which probably ensures a spot in the first round. I like his game, and I hope he matures, but that doesn't seem to happen that often with these diva wide receivers.
