All Access: Jason Campbell On His Way Out?

Speaking on NFL Network, Steve Wyche reports that Jason Campbell will demand a trade if the Redskins draft USC QB Mark Sanchez.

Mandel's Take: It's going to be funny if the Skins draft Sanchez, then trade him. Can you see Campbell, all fired up, storming into the Redskins offices and saying "I saw you drafted Sanchez you SOBs! I never liked you! I want out! Trade me now!" Then Daniel Snyder says, "Um...Jason? We only drafted him to trade him. We're still counting on you!" Awk-waaaard. Washington has so many other problems right now, that they can't afford to start over with another QB. Campbell, and I've said this before, has suffered through a few different offensive coordinators and systems--they need to stabilize the organization before they start flipping QBs. The Skins should try acquiring picks instead of throwing them away. Rev--do you see Campbell heading to your Jets, or will the Redskins keep him? I think you could do a lot worse.

Mancini's Take:
I think Sanchez is going to Seattle. But in the event that Washington does trade up for the former Trojan's services, the 'Skins will have no other alternative but to trade Campbell, who becomes a free agent in 2010, by the way. Still though, I think Campbell is getting a bit of a raw deal if he ends giving up his throne to this year's golden boy. While I'll concede that the Lionel Richie lookalike has to share in the responsibility for his team's second-half downfall last season (in which Washington averaged a little over 12 points per game), it must also be said that Campbell was a victim of his banged-up offensive line. In fact, J.C. was sacked 38 times. In addition, no quarterback in the world has much of a chance to succeed when little ol' Santana Moss is your number-one receiver. I'm going to take a page from NFLDB insider Dan Mogollon and pull out Campbell's numbers. He's thrown 35 touchdowns and 23 interceptions in his career thus far with a 80.4-percent passer rating. The stats are good, and he has the arm and youth to improve those totals. The kid needs some help out there.
