Plaxico Burress will return to court Tuesday in his gun-possession case as his lawyers and prosecutors haggle over a plea deal and what punishment the New York Giants star should face for accidentally shooting himself in a crowded nightclub last year. A law-enforcement official with knowledge of the case said that Burress and prosecutors have been in active discussions about a plea deal but remain at odds over the terms, with the District Attorney's office pushing for a stiffer punishment than what defense lawyers believe Burress deserves. Mandel's Take: Well, he returned to court but the hearing was adjourned until mid-June. This pushes back any possible reinstatement and if it goes to trial, I cannot see Burress being a New York Giant in 2009 because Roger Goodell is almost certianly going to suspend him. However, even if the case doesn't go to trial, Burress is sort of stuck as any plea agreement is likely to have some jail time attached. I can't say it's anything less than he deserves and I hope the Giants begin a search for a replacement immediately. One thing I know, Rev--the GMen certainly have a "without Burress" plan in place.
