NFL: Tedy Bruschi To Retire

Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi will reportedly retire on Monday. A person familiar with his decision told The Associated Press that the 36-year-old Bruschi will announce his retirement at a news conference at 10:45 a.m. ET on Monday morning at Gillette Stadium.

The Skinny: The first thing that comes to mind is: Wow, what a career! Bruschi has survived 14 seasons as an NFL pro despite suffering a well-chronicled stroke five years ago. The all-time Patriot great saw the writing on the wall, and did the right thing in retiring. His strength in taking on blockers was diminishing, along with his quickness. He might have been able to hang around as a reserve, but the old warrior has made enough money and won enough rings to leave the game without regrets. Intelligence and intincts were always his calling card. Bruschi had a knack of often being in the right place to make plays. It's safe to say that the coach Bill Belichick doesn't win three Super Bowls without his services.
