The NFL trade market kicked off with a boom for the Chicago Bears, as they landed defensive end Gaines Adams from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for a 2010 second-round pick on Friday.

The fourth overall pick in the 2007 draft out of Clemson registered six sacks in each of his first two seasons with the Buccaneers but was often the focal point of criticism from new head coach Raheem Morris, who fumed over his laziness.

Chicago likes to utilize a player rotation along their defensive line, which could suite well for Adams, someone who considers himself a pass-rush specialist. The Bears current starters include Adewale Ogunleye and Alex Brown.

As for Tampa Bay, the team is floundering as it fails to find itself an identity on either side of the ball, while occupying the basement in the NFC West at 0-5. The Josh Johnson experiment will soon end and it will be time for the Josh Freeman Era.

The Bears dealt away their 2010 first-round pick as part of the Jay Cutler deal, leaving them with their third-round pick as their earliest selection in April’s draft. The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday, October 20th.
