A source close to the situation has indicated that Todd Haley’s recent praise for quarterback Tyler Thigpen may be an attempt to drive up his trade value for GM Scott Pioli to pull off another trade, the NFL Draft Bible reports.
Haley met with the media on Monday and was sure to say a lot of good things about Tyler Thigpen,
"He’s an intriguing guy that presents some problems for the defense when you’ve got a guy that athletic and can run around and carry the football like he did.” Haley said. “He also threw 21 touchdown passes and it’s hard to throw 21 touchdown passes in the NFL."
"I haven’t spent a lot of time with him. I just had a brief phone conversation with him. But he’s got a lot of moxie. You can tell he played with passion.”
Wow, that’s a lot of man love for having just one conversation with the guy. He also went on to declare an open quarterback competition:
"I don’t know that you can say the quarterback position is secure," Haley said. "I think we’ve got another guy to come in and compete for the starting quarterback position.
Don’t bank on it, this is the quarterback controversy that never was. Look for Thigpen to be gone come draft day.
