Some may have thought there was a heavy breeze passing through Cincinnati last night. Instead, it was Bearcat Nation collectively exhaling with the news that head coach Brian Kelly would be remaining at the University of Cincinnati.

In an exclusive interview with the NFL Draft Bible, senior wide receiver Mardy Gilyard ended weeks of rumors that Kelly would leave for Notre Dame, stating “We ain’t going to lose him. He ain’t going anywhere. He already addressed the team on that. He addressed the team and said I’m not going anywhere. This was a couple days ago. Because it’s been popping up everywhere. You know so we had to focus just on playing the game. Coach, he didn’t shy away from it. He didn’t shy from the questions or nothing like that. He said listen guys. I’m here to stay. I like you guys, I like the city, I like my team. He was like I’m not going nowhere. Boss man has never lied to me personally.”

Surely, while Gilyard plays the role of the soothsayer, speculation will continue to mount, as Kelly has a scheduled interview with Notre Dame on Tuesday. The growing sentiment from sources we have spoken to seem to indicate that Northwestern headman Pat Fitzgerald has emerged as the leading candidate internally at Notre Dame.

And so the saga continues. Could coach Kelly cancel his meeting with Notre Dame? Will Fitzgerald become the new focus of the mainstream media?

Should Gilyard’s words fail to hold true, the NFL Draft Bible has learned that Cincinnati has already decided that Associate Head Coach/Defensive Backs Coach Kerry Combs would be elevated as their new head coach to lead the program.

The following scenarios should play out rather quickly, as the Fighting Irish have insisted that a search will conclude soon. For the time being, Kelly will be dodging bullets from the media as he will be bombarded with questions as to why he has a scheduled sit down with a program that he has already decided to turn down.

The NFL Draft Bible will have more news on this matter as it happens…
