Rutgers offensive tackle, Pedro Sosa, was standing on the sidelines on crutches while his former Scarlet Knight teammates were able to workout for the 20 National Football League teams in attendance at yesterday’s Pro Day at the New Jersey school, as reported by John Garrett.

According to his agents, Harold Lewis and Marc Lillibridge of National Sports Agency, the 300-pounder had his knee scoped to clean up some loose cartilage and bone spurs last Tuesday, March 18.  Sosa has already begun the rehabilitation process, which is expected to take approximately seven to eight weeks—meaning he should be ready for training camp.

They both deemed it an “unfortunate situation” as the injury occurred back in November and if it were taken care of then, Sosa would have been 100 percent for the draft scouting season—East-West Shrine game, NFL Scouting Combine and the Rutgers Pro Day.

The injury took place in a practice as the Big East School was preparing for their regular season finale at Louisville, a 41-38 loss.  Had the procedure been done then, it may have taken only two weeks for Sosa to get back on the field and with Rutgers’ Bowl game over a month away (January 5th), Lillibridge speculates his client would have been ready to take on Ball St, in the International Bowl following a simple scope.
The problem was that nothing came up on the MRI and Sosa believed he could play through it, with doctors telling him it would get better with time.  When it didn’t, they decided to scope the knee, which was when the loose cartilage and bone spurs were discovered.

“We wanted to do the right thing,” says Lewis.  Now Sosa will be ready for his NFL team according to the agents.  In addition, waiting longer could have caused more damage to the tackle’s knee.

In speaking with scouts, Lillibridge remains confident that his client will be selected in the upcoming NFL Draft (April 26-27).

When asked about rumors of an ACL injury image, Lewis responded, “absolutely not”.
